Protect our Tasmanian devils

In January 2023 a majority of councillors representing the Circular Head Council in North-West lutruwita/Tasmania voted against a motion to lower the speed limit on a roughly 30km stretch of road in the Circular Head LGA. This proposed speed limit reduction was aimed at protecting the endangered Tasmanian devil population in the area from becoming roadkill.

Reducing the speed limit along this stretch of Woolnorth Road in the Circular Head LGA has the potential to save hundreds of healthy devils that have not yet been impacted by the deadly facial tumour disease affecting populations in other areas.

We are calling on the Circular Head councillors who previously voted against this motion to reconsider their position on this matter. We are asking them support a speed limit reduction along the roughly 30km stretch of road when this issue next comes to a formal vote.
